More Proof TM Is NOT a Religion

I usually just post my snide comment, "Yes, We Are No Religion!" But this is getting embarassing! I wonder if all those kids about to learn Transcendental Meditation in public schools will also get a special deal on TM-powered yagyas?

If you've never heard of a yagya, it is a Hindu ritual in which special mantras are said or thought by a Hindu Brahmin to specific gods to improve the life of the person paying for the ritual.

For instance, want wealth? You can buy a yagya from the TM Org to invoke goddess Lakshmi's grace. Want to remove an obstacle? The elephant-headed god, Ganesh, is your man. Sorrow or lack of spiritual progress? You need serpent-necklaced Shiva.

The TM Movement isn't the only place you can buy a yagya, however. Pretty much any Hindu temple will do one far cheaper. (Here's an interesting Web site selling yagyas.)

At any rate, here's a new email sent to the TM faithful urging them to purchase a yagya on an astrologically propitious date.

Perhaps I should change my comment to, "Yes, We Are No Science"?

Akshaya Tritiya to Bring Lasting Achievements
Akshaya Tritiya is one of the most important days in the Vedic Calendar. On this day, Surya, the sun, and Chandra, the moon, are both exalted. They are the most prominent of all the nine Grahas (planets) and only at this time of the year are they both simultaneously in the state of exaltation, which means the state of greatest brilliance. According to the Vedic texts, this was the day when the ancient Rishis (sages) performed the first Yagya in the history of mankind. This event also marked the beginning of a time, when people lived happily in tune with Natural Law. The special quality of this day is expressed in the word ‘Akshaya’ which means ‘undecaying’ or ‘everlasting’. Maharishi Yagyas performed on this day take advantage of this quality of time. By nourishing any specific Law of Nature through Maharishi Yagya performances, one gains increased support of Nature to help achieve the following desires in a more lasting way:
* To increase wealth
* Removal of resistances and troubles for happiness and health in life and promotion of positive support
* For gaining knowledge

On Monday 27 April 2009, the Global Country of World Peace celebrates the auspicious day of Akshaya Tritiya, the Day of Lasting Achievements in the Vedic Calendar.

The grand, global celebration will be broadcast live via Internet on the Maharishi Channel, Channel 3.
The celebration will be held at the International Capital of the Global Country of World Peace in MERU, Netherlands; and will also feature special Vedic recitation performances by Maharishi Vedic Pandits at the Global Capital of World Peace in theBrahma-Sthan (geographical centre) of India.

New TM "Ideal Community" Project

Below, submitted by a TMFB reader, is a promotional mailing for Parksville Living #2 -- yet another Transcendental Meditation Movement real estate project. Will this one be abandoned as so many have been before? I'm struck by the personal information requested. If you live with a non-sidha, does that mean the Welcome Wagon won't visit you?

Good News
We are happy to be able to tell you that we've had a great response from our previous mailing. There are now 180 Sidhas receiving our growing list; some well-wishers and also a good number who are interested in joining our new community.

Scenic Attraction- Mt. Arrowsmith

Mt. Arrowsmith, (5962 feet) is the highest mountain peak of southern Vancouver Island's alpine area and is considered its crown jewel, dominating the skyline from both sides of Vancouver Island. It provides stunning vistas of Georgia Strait and the Coast mountains to the east as well as the Pacific Ocean to the west.

The Coast Salish native people call this sacred mountain, "Kuth-Kah-Chulth", which means "that which has sharp pointed faces". Although it appears in this photo to rise directly behind Parksville, it is set back in the center of the island with many miles of lakes, waterfalls, forests and gently rolling farmland in between.

We mention Mt. Arrowsmith here because it can be seen from the property on which we wish to build and from some spots, looking to the north, the ocean can be seen as well.

Our Next Step- Moving Forward
The next step in creating our Sidha village is to decide what we want to build. In order for the developer to give us price estimates, we have to tell them what we want. For this reason we have included a short building survey below.


OUR CHOICE OF STHAPATYA VEDA HOMES
The builder will design and quote us the price of building "green" Sthapatya Veda homes including single family residences, duplexes, strata apartments, lofts and townhomes. Tell us what kind of unit you would like to live in: grand home, bungalow, duplex, strata apartment, loft?

Parksville Village Survey
INTRODUCTORY NOTE- We are all in the same boat. Until we know the approximate cost for a living unit, we feel cautious to say what we want. Here is how we propose to resolve this dilemma:
• Firstly, please remember, at this point everything is completely non-committal. We just need to get some preliminary information to the builder so we can move forward.
• Secondly, if you feel fairly certain that you won't be in a position to purchase a unit, don't count yourself out. Some Sidhas are planning to buy several units so rentals will be made available in order to expand the size of our community from its inception. These Sidhas need to know how many rentals to purchase and what kind.
• Thirdly, in the survey below, please indicate your first and second choice so if the first choice turns out to be more than you can manage, hopefully your second choice will fit into your budget.
• Fourthly, it will take time to build a top-quality, "green" Sthapatya Vedic subdivision with park-like landscaping complete with single family homes, duplexes, and a strata apartment building. The projected date for the infrastructure; roads, sidewalks, streetlamps, electricity, sewer, etc. is not expected to be finished until early Fall 2010. The home you will live in may not be completed for another year or more after that, depending on which units are built first. With this timeline in mind, it might be possible that you will have the finances in place to join us in paradise!

More Info On McCartney's TM Academy

Received this recently in my email regarding the English Transcendental Meditation academy seeking funding from ex-Beatle Paul McCartney. (Edited for anonymity.)

As the article attached states it is situated in Ormskirk, Lancashire 15 miles away from Liverpool which happens to be where Paul McCartney was born and raised. The school happens to be part of the siddhaland situated in Skelmersedale, Lancashire which is next to Ormskirk. All the children from the siddhaland, known as the Ideal Village attend the Maharishi school in Ormskirk. It is rather like the set up in Fairfield - I heard there was a school there to.

"In this same siddhaland, some one became a drug addict and was immediately shunned by the Village. There were many broken marriages and Geoffrey Clements told his divorced wife (the 2nd and 3rd wife, I could never keep up) to leave the Village, and put all sorts of intimidating pressure on her to do so."

Another TM Peace Palace Bites the Dust

Critics have long speculated whether the funds raised for projects like Transcendental Meditation from loyal followers are actually used for these projects. Here's an article on a Kansas Peace Palace that's "dust in the wind." Also some interesting observations from a TM spokesman about how TM is also being hit by the financial crisis.

I had been under the impression that the "Invincible America" course was going to push the Dow over 17,000?

I guess the "Full Sunshine of the Age of Enlightenment" isn't what it used to be in the good old days.
